Louis Nicollin, Montpellier’s owner is a notorious firebrand and the Magpies are the latest to suffer his corrosive diatribe. Newcastle United fans keen for the skinny on their club’s pursuit of silver bullet number ten Remy Cabella were rudely awakened this morning… A morning paper tongue-lashing from outspoken Montpellier bankroller Louis Nicollin was the cause of the spat-out tea and Coco Pop-flecked kitchen walls the length and breadth of Tyneside: “Yes, the “great” English club Newcastle has made us an offer of £8 million from three weeks ago, which I refused. I do not think Newcastle is right for him, and I also think they are taking us for idiots.” The latter comment was actually something of an improvement on his previous assessment of Cabella’s potential new domicile back in February… ‘Personally, I wouldn’t go there. You must get bored s***less in Newcastle.’ Before the battalions of the Toon Army mobilise for the march on Montpellier, Newcastle are no exception in their role of receptacles for his vitriol, as Carlo Ancelotti, his own players and those with special educational needs can testify. “I prefer (La Paillade gaffer Rolland) Courbis to Ancelotti! [...] The greatest coaches are those who win titles with half-good players. Courbis went up in Ligue 1 coaching half-mongoloid players.” Grossly insulting or self-deprecating, you decide… “Well done Bastia. They have bigger balls than us. We have shrivelled olives.” Probably self-deprecating… “Montpellier Champions of France? If I Was Marseille, Paris, Lyon, Lille, or Rennes I’d stab myself in the a*** with a sausage! What an embarrassment it would be for them.” Definitely self-deprecating… However, it will offer Mike Ashley further encouragement to know that his club is far from the first to be dissed during transfer dealings with Montpellier. Just ask cue-ball-domed former AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani, about whom Nicollin had this to say: “Kojak never called me (…) This makes me laugh. Those guys just got out of bed. They sold a guy for €45 million euros (Thiago Silva to PSG) and they want to steal one of ours.” The Toon may not be taking them all as idiots, but it's pretty clear from that lot who is out front in the running at Montpellier. Lights Oot!

I know I am the manager of a very big club, I think one of the biggest in the Premier League. Therefore, my vision and my philosophy must be to bring success, and I must drive that regardless of what obstacles get in my way. If there’s an obstacle in my way, I just have to jump over it. I think I’m the second longest serving Premier League manager, and longest serving manager at this club since Sir Bobby Robson. I’ve kind of earned my spurs, and sometimes in adversity I think the fans admire you more.
Ha bloody ha you sad misguided plonker...
Thanks WL, appreciated.

Now I'm the first to acknowledge that supporting The Toon places a huge question mark over any individuals sanity, however on reading this I do seriously doubt the guy is sound of mind. Leg EndCult hero, Newcastle icon, but this player considered already to be a Legend......umm! What do you think? Lights Oot!

I read this piece from The Mag this morning and it raises quite a few issues for me so I just wondered what anyone else may make of it... Lowering standards? While I think the author is more than entitled to say what he believes is true, however for me there's quite a bit of what he states is way off the mark and rightly up for challenge. Not least of which is that two of the players he says are better than what we have recently acquired were both part of the team that had such a horrendous run from Christmas onwards. He also appears to be looking at these guys through rose coloured specs as Cabaye didn't always produce magic every week and plays in a much deeper holding role for France than as an attacking force. Debuchy may look good going forward but at times last season was awful when pressed to defend. As for Remy I still remain unconvinced he is anything other than a mercenary player looking for his next big pay day, who holds no particular passion or loyalty for his employer or a specific Club. You will also possibly note that among the comments section it's pointed out that none of those mentioned as being better have exactly demanded to stay at The Toon. In fact if anything it's been the opposite and Remy while he performed as well as we could have expected is not even a Toon player, he belongs to QPR, so I see no point in including him at all in any comparison debate about signings. I'm not beyond having a moan about OMBO, his manager and the way things are at , however this just smacks of negativity for negativity's sake. What do you think? WL

The body of a second football fan who was killed in the MH17 disaster has been identified, the Foreign Office has said.
Newcastle United fan John Alder, 63, was travelling to New Zealand with his friend Liam Sweeney, 28, to watch their team play pre-season friendlies when the Malaysia Airlines flight was shot down in the Ukraine five weeks ago.
The crash claimed the lives of all 298 people on board.
Mr Sweeney's remains were identified and during his funeral service in Newcastle on August 21st his family expressed the wish that Mr Alder's body could also soon be recovered and brought back to the UK.
The identification process has now been completed in the Netherlands.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Service spokesman said: "We can confirm the positive identification of another British victim of flight MH17, John Alder.
"The family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
"We continue to provide consular assistance to the family."
The confirmation came on the day Newcastle United opened a garden of remembrance outside St James' Park for the two 'super fans' - and all other supporters who have died.
The club's managing director, Lee Charnley, said: "The loss of John and Liam was truly devastating news.
"Both men were dedicated supporters of our club and were known to thousands of fans and staff alike."
