A tasty-looking Yorkshire derby stands out in the draw for the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, on the proviso AFC Halifax get through a replay. In the draw made on Monday night, the club reformed in 2008 were drawn to be at home to play Bradford City, but first they must see off fellow non-league side Chorley. Even a Chorley win would provide an interesting aside, with Bantams boss Phil Parkinson coming from the Lancashire town overshadowed by bigger-name local sides Bolton and Preston. The lowest-ranked side left in the competition – Northern Division One team Shildon – will welcome local club Gateshead if they get the better of Norton in a replay. Warrington Town, managed by Peter Reid's brother Shaun, will play host to Exeter City, while another non-league side, AFC Fylde, must make a 640-mile round trip to Plymouth Argyle. Other notable match-ups include Maidstone United going to Stevenage for their maiden First-Round tie since reforming in 1992 and 1987 winners Coventry City welcoming Worcester City to the Ricoh Arena. The highest-ranked team in the draw, Bristol City, must go to Gillingham, while Burton Albion will head to Barnsley and Morecambe have a long journey ahead to either Eastbourne or Dover. WL

The draw for The FA Cup Second Round took place on Monday 10th November at the National Football Museum in Manchester and produced another exciting set of fixtures. Local grassroots hero Jason Craven from West End AFC joined Martin Keown in picking the famous balls from the hat live on BBC Two, and the pair did not disappoint as they pulled out a number of plum ties. Giantkilling legends Blyth Spartans, who sealed their spot with a 4 - 1 home over Altrincham on Sunday, will be licking their lips as they prepare to meet North East neighbours Hartlepool United. Warrington Town, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, will also be heading north after they were drawn away to Conference National side Gateshead. The Northern Premier League Division One North side have reached this stage for the first time having caused one of the upsets of The First Round with their victory over Exeter. Manager Shaun Reid, brother of former England international and FA Cup winner Peter, said: "It's a good draw for us - they're a decent side and third in the Conference and we will have to do the same as we did in the First Round." He added: "I am more worried about being in Newcastle the night before the match because that's a good night out and I know what my lads are like. I might have to lock them up in their rooms or maybe go up on the day of the game." Second Round Proper - Ties to be played 5th, 6th and 7th December Winning clubs receive £27,000 WL

The FA Cup Third Round Proper threw up a number of intriguing ties following Monday evening's draw, with a repeat of last season's Final amongst the fixtures. With the draw being made at 'The Deep' aquarium in Hull, there were gasps around the room when Steve Bruce's Hull City side were paired with Arsenal in the first tie pulled out of the hat by local grassroots volunteer Paul Adamson and former England captain Alan Shearer. It's a repeat of when the two clubs met at Wembley Stadium last May, with Arsene Wenger's Gunners running out as 3 - 2 winners in a thrilling Final. Hull boss Steve Bruce said afterwards: It's an amazing draw, so let's hope it's as good a game as last season's Final. “I was convinced we were at home – we drew against them a few weeks ago in the league and now it's the FA Cup so let's see if we progress. “A good Cup run did well for us last season and hopefully it can do the same again” That was followed up with some more eye-catching ties, as Conference Premier Dover Athletic were paired at home with Premier League outfit Crystal Palace shorty after. Dover midfielder Chris Kinnear Jnr, who had asked for Manchester United, commented: “We wanted a Premier League Club and we've got one, so we will give it our best shot.” Conference club Gateshead will also take on Premier League opposition, in the shape of a trip to face West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. For fellow north-east club Blyth Spartans, their reward for a shock 2 - 1 win over Hartlepool United is a home tie against Championship side Birmingham City. Spartans manager Tom Wade said: “We are just delighted to be at home, which is what our amazing supporters deserve.” Southport will also take on Championship opponents, with Gary Brabin's team paired with high-flying Derby County at the iPro Stadium. Brabin, Southport's manager, said: “They are a good side and Steve McClaren has got them playing very well. If we few show the same attitude as we have so far in the Cup we will give them a good game.” And next week's Second Round replay between Yeovil Town and Accrington Stanley will take on extra significance for those clubs, with the prize being a home tie against Manchester United in the next round for the winners.
