AC Milan v Arsenal is perhaps the stand-out tie after the draw was made for the next stage of the UEFA Europa League. Round of 16 draw Lazio (ITA) v Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) Leipzig (GER) v Zenit (RUS) Atlético Madrid (ESP) v Lokomotiv Moskva (RUS) CSKA Moskva (RUS) v Lyon (FRA) Marseille (FRA) v Athletic Club (ESP) Sporting CP (POR) v Plzeň (CZE) Dortmund (GER) v Salzburg (AUT) AC Milan (ITA) v Arsenal (ENG)First legs 8th March, Second legs 15th March Milan and Arsenal have played each other six times, winning two apiece with two draws. Their last meeting in 2011/12 was a thriller, the Rossoneri winning 4 - 0 in the first leg of a UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie, only for the Gunners to mount a stirring comeback in north London, falling just short with a 3 - 0 victory. Milan have not won in six visits to England (D3 L3), since a 1 - 0 victory at Manchester United in the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League first knockout round. That is their sole success in 16 away games at Premier League clubs. Dortmund boss Peter Stöger returns home for the round of 16. He was the last man to lead a team other than Salzburg to the title in his native Austria, racking up a points record with Austria Wien in 2012/13 before leaving for Köln. Aritz Aduriz's wonder goal took Athletic through against Marseille when these sides met in the 2015/16 round of 32. Lyon are bidding to become just the second club to win this title at their own stadium since one-match finals in pre-selected venues were introduced in 1998. Feyenoord beat Dortmund in Rotterdam in 2002; Sporting CP lost to CSKA Moskva in Lisbon three years later. It was an open draw, so there was no seeding or country protection. Based on decisions taken by the UEFA Executive Committee, teams from Russia and Ukraine could not be drawn together so Dynamo Kyiv were selected in the first pairing with the 12 remaining eligible sides. The final eight learn what stands between them and the UEFA Europa League semi-finals. Quarter-final draw Leipzig (GER) v Marseille (FRA) Arsenal (ENG) v CSKA Moskva (RUS)Atlético Madrid (ESP) v Sporting CP (POR) Lazio (ITA) v Salzburg (AUT) First legs 5th April, Second legs 12th April; all kick-off times 21:05CET Draw facts Leipzig (GER) v Marseille (FRA) The teams have never met before in UEFA competition. Leipzig took four points off Marseille's neighbours Monaco in this season's UEFA Champions League group stage, drawing 1 - 1 in Germany and scoring four first-half goals in a 4 - 1 win in the return fixture. Marseille have won only once in eight visits to Germany (D2 L5). Arsenal (ENG) v CSKA Moskva (RUS) Arsenal and CSKA Moskva met in the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League group stage, the Russian club winning 1 - 0 at home before a goalless draw in north London. Arsenal's heaviest defeat in this competition came at home to Russian opponents, going down 5 - 2 against Spartak Moskva in the 1982/83 first round second leg. That completed an 8 - 4 aggregate loss. The Gunners have never won in four previous trips to Russia, losing three of them. CSKA have lost their last five games against English opposition, most recently succumbing home (1 - 4) and away (1 - 2) to Manchester United in this season's UEFA Champions League group stage. Atlético Madrid (ESP) v Sporting CP (POR) Atlético and Sporting's only previous encounters came in the 2009/10 round of 16. The teams drew 0 - 0 in Madrid and 2 - 2 in Lisbon, with the Spanish side going on to lift the trophy that season. Sporting CP have never won in 12 previous visits to Spain (L9 D3). Sporting CP lost home (0 - 1) and away (0 - 2) to Barcelona in this season's UEFA Champions League group stage. That stretched their run of defeats by Liga clubs to five – they have won just one of the last 12 matches against Spanish opponents (D3 L8). Jan Oblak won four out of five against Sporting CP during his time in Portugal with Leiria, Rio Ave and Benfica. Lazio (ITA) v Salzburg (AUT) Salzburg, who are still unbeaten in this season's competition, beat Lazio 2 - 1 home and away in the 2009/10 group stage. Lazio have lost their last three games against Austrian opposition. Salzburg suffered their joint heaviest European defeat in Italy, crashing 5 - 0 at Parma in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup second round second leg. It was an open draw, so there was no seeding or country protection. Lyon final ambassador Éric Abidal picked out the balls. The right to lift the distinctive UEFA Europa League trophy will be contested by former European champions Marseille and two-time winners Atlético. The game will be played on Wednesday 16th May, with kick-off at 20:45 CET. Marseille are the nominal home team as a result of a draw made for administrative purposes following last month's semi-final draw. Both teams may wear their first choice of colours but if there is a clash the team designated as the away team (i.e. Atlético) must wear alternative colours. The venue for the game is Stade de Lyon, 10km east of the centre of France's third largest city. The ground, also known as Parc OL, replaced Stade de Gerland as the home of Lyon in time to stage six games at UEFA EURO 2016. The stadium has a capacity of 56,500. Final - Lyon Wednesday 16th May 2018 Marseille 0 - 3 Atlético Antoine Griezmann had a homecoming to savour as the France striker struck a goal in each half earned Atlético a third UEFA Europa League trophy in nine years. Marseille had begun brighter and were well on top midway through the first half when a fateful piece of miss control by André Zambo Anguissa on the edge of the box led to the opening goal. Gabi pounced, sending the alert Griezmann through one-on-one with Steve Mandanda. There was only ever going to be one winner. OM were winded, and their hopes suffered another huge blow when the talismanic Dmitri Payet, an injury doubt before the game, limped off soon after. The knockout punch came soon after half-time, a slick move concluding with a brilliant, impudent finish from Griezmann. The teetering Marseille battled to the end, and almost set up a grandstand finale when substitute Kostas Mitroglou headed against the inside of the post with nine minutes left. But this was Greizmann's night, even if Gabi did get in on the scoring action late on. Man of the match: Antoine Griezmann (Atlético) "Antoine is an OM fan," Payet said in the lead-up to the game. Not on this evidence. Two chances, two goals. Brought up 70km from Lyon, he has made a habit of scoring on his return for Real Sociedad, France and now Atleti – what better place to capture your first major trophy? Atlético doing what they do best: grinding out results. It did not quite happen for them in the UEFA Champions League but once they came into the UEFA Europa League they never hid their desire to lift the trophy. Thanks to that man Griezmann they have a third title in nine years and their remarkable upward trajectory under Diego Simeone continues. Payet is so vital to Marseille's play that Rudi Garcia had to take a risk on his captain's fitness. The playmaker showed his class by setting up Valère Germain's glorious early chance but when he went off injured it soon became apparent that Marseille would really miss their talisman. Thauvin usually feeds off Payet but never got going and despite a late revival, a Marseille defeat appeared inevitable from the moment Payet exited in tears. Griezmann is the ninth player to score twice in a one-off UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League final – no one has managed a hat-trick. Gabi's late goal was his first for Atleti since August 2015, his first in UEFA club competition since 2011; he is the oldest player to score in the UEFA Europa League final. Atlético have moved alongside Liverpool, Internazionale and Juventus on three UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League triumphs. Only five-time winners Sevilla have more. Spanish sides have won six of the nine trophies in the UEFA Europa League era: Sevilla (3) and Atlético (3). Gabi, Diego Godín, Koke and Juanfran all claimed second final wins having lifted the trophy under Diego Simeone in 2011/12. A substitute tonight, Filipe Luís were also part of both triumphs. This was Marseille's third UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League final defeat. The only other side to have lost three and not lifted the trophy is Benfica. © 1998-2018 UEFA. All rights reserved. WL
