Probably like many I believe it was massive mistake to appoint him in first place. Says it all that he was in post same length of time as Big Sham was manager, yet achieved less! The writing was on the wall for what has followed. He failed (or succeeded depending on point of view) to spend one single penny as the Toon's Director of F*ckall - despite selling star Yohan Cabaye for £20m last week and that in a transfer window made all the worse as The Toon were unable to bring in a replacement.
Joe Feckinghere's role as Director of F*ckall saw him in charge of transfers at the club and his working relationship with APee possibly summed up in these words as the manager said after losing Cabaye that it was crucial the club brought in a top class player. Yet Kinnear and whoever else was in his negotiating team were unable to do so, despite the former Wombles and Toon boss infamously claiming that he could pick up the phone and talk to any manager in the Premier League.
"I’ve spent my whole life picking up the phone and talking to Alex Ferguson (unfortunately this is believed now to be the manager of The Dog & Duck pub in Sarf London), week in, week out, what would you do? I can pick the phone up at any time of the day and speak to Arsene Wenger (now believed to be Artful Dodger a greyhound known to be an associate of Appy Arry's dog), I can pick the phone up and speak to any manager in the league," he said during an interview with talkSPORT aka talkSh*te!
If that wasn't bad enough he was also ridiculed for mispronouncing the names of several of The Mags key players, as well as the club's managing director Derek Lyingbast**d (whom he referred to as Derek Lambeze).
He called Cabaye "Kebab", Hatem Ben Arfa "Ben Afree" and Shola Ameobi "Amamobi".
You even get the impression from the released Club statement about his departure it has all been too much to handle for the embattled press officer Wendy Taylor on top of the derby loss to the Mackems.
"Newcastle United can confirm that Joe Kinnear has this evening resigned from his position as director of football with immediate effect.
"The club will be making no further comment."
Newcastle's Director of F*ckall has seen JFK at the centre of a number of controversial stories, including a report by the Sunday People that he had tried to sign Shane Ferguson who was already a Newcastle player. Joe spotted the player while on a scouting trip to Birmingham, and showed an interest in him, only to be told that he was on loan from the Toon.
Good riddance and I only hope it is another sign our most benevolent owner is closer to chucking it as well.

The first thing I thought upon hearing this was "Thank God." The second thing I thought upon hearing this was "We're a laughingstock." The third thing I thought upon hearing this was "Something doesn't seem right about this...there's got to be more." Then, Marc Duffy put into words what I was thinking: Was Joe Kinnear Just Ashley's Patsy All Along?
Highlights include: "He also appeared to have invented a new CV, spending plenty of time talking it up and bragging about his exhaustive list of contacts in the game. He amusingly/startlingly mispronounced players names -- who can forget "Yohan Kebab"? -- and asked the football fraternity to "judge me on my signings."
After a devastating derby defeat to Sunderland, the time of judgement arrived. Facing a charge of ineptitude, there was no question of Kinnear's guilt."and "There is another theory that has been gaining momentum, however.
Put in place just before the summer transfer window opened and leaving his role within days of the closure of the January transfer window, it appears feasible that Kinnear may have been singled out from the start to be Ashley's fall-guy. Perhaps Ashley never intended to make a permanent signing in either window and knew that the appointment of Kinnear would divert criticism and scorn away from himself and Pardew. Ashley's bulletproof vest, now removed after stepping out of the transfer window's line of fire."

Mac, no issue with Joe (Not any longer) Feckinghere being labelled as OMBO's fall-guy as that is more than feasible to accept. The bit I have a concern over is the idea his resignation would deflect scorn and criticism away from the FCB and his other employee APee. If anything I would say it's brought them all into clear focus under the spotlight again and generated even more unrest among supporters, both for and against the regime, than was there previously for sometime. Massive tactical error if that was the plan, although we all know planning is not one of the current hierarchy's strengths. WL

Still waiting for official confirmation however the major story circulating this evening appears to be the impending exit of APee from The Toon to Crystal Palace.
The only surprising thing about this is that APee is actually prepared to walk away. Ironically the mantra being spouted by many on this situation is 'beware of what you wish for', however the very same could be said of APee moving to Palace as a golden ticket it is not.
I'm also sick to death of hearing APee can only work with what he is given and should be given more slack, also with an owner like Ashley what do Toon fans really expect? Well for someone that has watched most if not all of the games in the past four years APee has definitely in my view not taken the playing side forward. Round and round perhaps, but forward and competitive on a regular basis, no way. Despite that at times I have defended the guy, yet also perversely wondered just what it was that actually stopped him from being sacked, particularly with his derby record, dismal cup exploits and the run the side had from January to May of this year.
One thing for sure all Mags will be waiting to see who is appointed and little thought given to the departing man until the Toon face Palace, always assuming APee is in charge of them of course.
Never dull at Gallowgate....

Official NUFC statement on APee Newcastle United can confirm that Crystal Palace have made a formal approach requesting permission to speak to Alan Pardew in relation to their vacant managerial position. Crystal Palace have offered compensation at a level whereby Alan has now been permitted to speak to them. As a result of this development today (Monday), Alan will not be at training on Tuesday. Training will be the responsibility of assistant manager John Carver. The Club will make a further announcement in due course. Lights Oot!

Perhaps it's just my perverse sense of humour or from spending too much time in the barrel lately for my own good, but I can't get it out of my head the way in which the football media are already working on the mind set of Palace fans over the impending arrival of our ex manager. The prodigal player returning to the fold where he will be received with warmth and kindness after the terrible treatment suffered at the hands of those Geordie hordes erp! Narf! According to these so called informed media types and assorted pundits it's a given he will be better understood, respected, supplied with 'loads ave money' to spend as he wishes, and immediately turn results around thereby saving them from relegation. Terrific stuff! I'm quite sure there will be many that will buy into that lot, but I also wonder if some will do as I did on his appointment at The Toon and trawl through the opinions of fans from the likes of Charlton, West Ham, Reading, Southampton and now Newcastle for their views on their new leader. Must admit four years on a lot of the opinions I probably initially doubted have actually been closer to the mark regarding his abilities than those stating he would be a sound appointment. Those views did not stop me during his tenure in charge from both offering him my support or for that matter being highly critical, although unlike the good Capt'n I did refrain from boldly stating entirely 'It's all Pardews fault!'. Anyone that has taken the slightest interest in Gallowgate affairs knows APee was more a symptom of what is wrong at than the root cause. Anyway back to those Palace fans getting ready to welcome Alan Pardew and boy oh! boy is this a week for them to find out what is in store as they head off on New Years day to Villa looking for points to drag themselves out of the bottom three before traveling down to non league Dover for a televised FA Cup game. Pretty sure there will be a level of expectation among Eagles fans that Palace can get something from both fixtures. However ask any Mag about matching APee, expectation and a result together when it really matters they will tell you forget it, saves on the suffering later. Now it's back to offering up prayers to The Football Gods the next Toon appointment is a good one or at least not Steve Bruce....Tony Pulis, Glen Hoddle...Alan Curbish...err! Oh! shit we are in trouble again. Lights Oot! blackandwhitethinking
