Teenage striker Adam Armstrong has signed a new four-year contract at St. James' Park. The 19-year-old, who scored 20 goals while on loan at Coventry City last season, was called up for England's under-20 squad on Thursday ahead of their friendly against Brazil next month. And in the evening, he put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him with his boyhood Club until 2020. Armstrong, who made his Premier League debut as a 17-year-old against Fulham in March 2014, said: "I'm over the moon. "I've been working hard on the training pitch and I did well last season, so to get the reward is massive for me and I think it's the next step. "I went on loan last season and for me to come back here and extend my contract is brilliant for me and for my family. "I'll keep working hard every day and progress." Lights Oot!

Promising defender Jamie Sterry has signed a new four-year contract with the Magpies. The news caps a good week for the Newcastle-born 20-year-old, who made his full debut for the Club in Tuesday night's EFL Cup win against Cheltenham. Academy product Sterry made his senior bow as a substitute against Tottenham on the final day of last season. The right-back is the latest of Rafa Benitez's young players to commit his long-term future to the Club, following Freddie Woodman, Rolando Aarons and Adam Armstrong who have all agreed new contracts in recent weeks. Sterry said: "I'm delighted to sign a new contract with Newcastle, my boyhood Club. "I've worked really hard to get here and this week has been really good for me, starting for the first time and now this. "I've learnt a lot, especially under the manager but also under every coach and every manager, and I'd like to thank my family and girlfriend. "Now I just need to keep working hard and hopefully get more opportunities to play in front of our fans." Lights Oot!

From official Newcastle United site... Defender Paul Dummett has signed a new long-term contract with Newcastle United. The 26-year-old left-back, who was born in Newcastle, has been with the Magpies since the age of nine, progressing through the ranks to make more than 100 appearances for his boyhood club. Dummett made his senior debut for United in January 2013 following successful loan spells with Gateshead and St. Mirren, and was a virtual ever-present as Rafa Benítez's side won the Sky Bet Championship title last season. He suffered a hamstring injury on the opening day of the current campaign but since his return to action, Newcastle have won three and drawn four of their last nine games - only losing twice to league leaders Manchester City - and conceded just eight goals in the process. Manager Benítez said: "If you talk about players that are important for the team, normally people talk about goalscorers, midfielders and number tens but in modern football, there are not too many consistent left-sided full-backs. "Paul is exactly that; he understands the game and you know what you can expect from him week in, week out. That's important when you have a lot of big games. He's a player you can trust. "He was unlucky to miss the first four months of the season through injury, but he's a player who is quick to learn and knows his job really well. His return has given us more competition in a position where we did not have too much before, so we're really pleased to keep him." The new deal could run to the summer of 2022. Dummett told TV: "It's my boyhood club and I've been a supporter for many years so to extend my stay at the club for even longer is really important to me. "I've always wanted to stay here and the manager and the club have wanted to keep me so I'm really pleased to have signed the new contract and hopefully there are many more years to come." WL

Teenage striker Elias Sørensen has signed a new contract with Newcastle United after hitting 19 goals in the first half of the season for the Magpies' second string. The Dane has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal - with the club holding an option to extend the deal further - after moving to the top of the Premier League 2 division two scoring charts with his goal against Sunderland last week. Sørensen has also scored in all four of Newcastle's Checkatrade Trophy ties this term, and is set to wear the number nine shirt in Tuesday night's Northern Section quarter-final against Sunderland's first team at the Stadium of Light. The 19-year-old joined Newcastle from HB Køge in the summer of 2016, having become the Danish side's youngest ever debutant when he came off the bench in a First Division game against Silkeborg IF. Sørensen told TV: "It means a lot - I've worked hard for it over the last three years or so and I'm delighted to sign with such a massive club. WL

Newcastle United can confirm that midfielder Matty Longstaff has signed a new contract with the club. The 20-year-old Academy product initially stepped up to the first team squad after impressing Steve Bruce last summer and he was duly handed his Premier League debut against Manchester United in October 2019. His superb winning goal in that game saw him collect the Premier League Goal of the Month award, as well as a nomination for the Goal of the Season prize, and he scored again in the return game at Old Trafford last December. He ended his breakthrough season with three goals in 15 appearances and won his first cap for England at under-19 level in November 2019. Despite his contract expiring at the end of the prolonged 2019/20 campaign, the boyhood Newcastle fan has now agreed a new two-year deal. Longstaff said: "I'm delighted to have signed. It took a bit longer than I'd hoped but I'm really happy it's done now, and I can't wait to get back to playing at a full St. James' Park hopefully soon. "I spoke to Steve Bruce and we talked through it and it was a no-brainer after I spoke to him. He gave me my chance and I'm really looking forward to working with him and his coaching staff, who were all great with me." Longstaff's older brother, Sean, also plays for the Magpies and has made 42 appearances for the club. He added: "Playing alongside Sean always makes it special so hopefully I can get a few more games under my belt with him and crack on." Head coach Bruce said: "I'm delighted that he's committed himself. It's great to see a young local lad from North Shields staying with his boyhood club. "It's taken a while, but patience is a virtue and I've always said that I was quietly confident. "We never want to lose our good young players and it's an important time for Matty now. I do believe the speculation affected him, so let's hope we get to see the real Matty, the one who burst onto the scene before last Christmas, and let's see him come and perform to the level which we hope he can maintain." Will be interesting to see if Bruce actually plays the lad...as didn't appear to fancy him much before his loan signings last season. Lights Oot!

Newcastle United are pleased to announce that defender Ciaran Clark has signed a new two-year contract with the club. The Republic of Ireland international, 31, has made 103 appearances for the Magpies - scoring 11 times - since he signed from Aston Villa in the summer of 2016. In his first season, he won the club's Player of the Year award as United won the Sky Bet Championship title, and he has been a consistent and reliable performer in the Premier League for the past three-and-a-half campaigns. Since returning from an ankle injury in November, Clark has been one of the first names on Steve Bruce's team sheet and has made 14 appearances so far this term. Clark stated "I'm really looking forward to continuing my years here" "My contract was ending in the summer; for me, I was trying to stay more focused on the games, getting back involved this season and trying to play games, and I've managed to do that over the last few weeks. "To be back playing was the real aim for me, then the contract has followed, so I'm delighted to concentrate now on the next couple of years." Head coach Steve Bruce added: "I'm delighted Ciaran has signed a new deal. "First and foremost, he is a very talented defender and he gives us great balance as a naturally left-footed centre-half. "He has also become a very consistent performer and I'm pleased to see his hard work and commitment rewarded." That's alright then! WL

Joe Joyce has left his position as Newcastle United's Academy Manager. The club would like to thank Joe for his service and wishes him well for the future. Steve Harper will fulfil the Academy Manager role on an interim basis until the end of the 2020/21 Academy season in June. A further announcement on Academy management will be made in due course.
