The question shouldn't be if he does everything to make a profit because the answer is yes. He is a businessman and businessmen increase profits for their companies. That's what they do.
The question should be whether his vision/infrastructure for the toon can work.
IMO it can and should have by now.
I used to argue on the old ronniegill forum that this is how we should do things and that Freddie didn't have a clue.
The response by many on those boards was that you cant make a profit at a football club.
The infrastructure IMO is the only chance we will ever have of winning titles and cups year after year. It is sustainable.
The problem as I see it is we have up to now only employed people who go out of their way to prove it cant work.
Even though it absolutely does work.
The buck stops with Ashley though because he's an absolute buffoon when it comes to employing people.

I have said for years the main difference with The Toon and those at the top of the league rests in the boardroom. No matter what happens the buggers keep proving me correct.

"IMO it can and should have by now" FLE.........you are right about the by now bit..............I just think that Ashley is such a megalomaniac that he cant even let his employees carry out his own plan. He is the master at moving the goalposts just when they are lining up to take a shot...........deja vu.

The question shouldn't be if he does everything to make a profit because the answer is yes. He is a businessman and businessmen increase profits for their companies. That's what they do. The question should be whether his vision/infrastructure for the toon can work. I believe you may have answered your own question...He is a businessman and businessmen increase profits for their companies. That's what they do. So it's yes and working a treat. OMBO's vision has nothing to do with Professional Football in the sense many fans relate to the game i.e Competition, sporting excellence, dare I say it even actually winning things. His vision to me is all about income generation and nothing else. The pricing structure at is evidence of that, simply put bums on seats anyway you can. Don't believe it matters one jot whether those people are life long supporters of The Mags or simply want to watch players like Hazard, Silva, Rooney and the like or fancy nothing more than fitting in a PL game on a brief visit to The Toon. OMBO will sell to anyone providing they meet his conditions. You only have to attend a game at SJP to see evidence this is the way it's going. FLE you may also have to explain a bit more what you mean by 'infrastructure', however working on the principle that in order to generate profits you have to effectively manage costs, Mikey rules with an iron fist. Everything is geared up to maximize revenue whilst budgeting for minimal overheads. Why employ twenty people when you can run the place with three? Why pay £20m for a single player? When you can buy four for £5m a piece then sell them at a higher price when the opportunity presents itself. Any potential losses off set by the one or two good sales that are made under this approach, under pinned by the massive TV deal. It's also based around free advertising for Sh*te Direct and good individual performances rather than what the team does as a whole. Welcome to modern day , a shop window for the main business and players looking to further their careers when they may have either stalled or not quite gone as desired. It's not without risk as the side could fall out of the PL, but we all know the guy is a gambler. I just don't see anything changing unless one of four things happens. Firstly, a huge number of people pack it in, but to be honest it's very unlikely as I strongly suspect they will simply be replaced by others prepared to accept any conditions imposed. Secondly, someone with huge financial backing offers to buy the Club. Thirdly, OMBO gets bored or it starts costing him more than he is prepared to spend. Fourthly, Mikey has a massive heart attack and dies. Lights Oot!

The buck stops with Ashley though because he's an absolute buffoon when it comes to employing people. First and foremost nobody knows what his vision is!! The man is that arrogant and ignorant he feels he should never explain himself to anyone so I cannot see for the life of me what people expect other than a life of misery. My view on the profit side of a football club is that the current Ashley shambolic way of trying to run a football club is so out of touch with reality it is laughable. Looking back to when we finished fifth that side should have been strengthened ready for the European competition we entered and for the following season. That of course means investing, something that Ashley cannot stomach. Since we did not invest but sold instead we have slowly and steadily declined into an empty shell. I think the players have looked at the way "the club" has been run and seen through the master plan and this has led into a malaise which has engulfed the team, exactly the same endemic malaise we see also on the terraces..
