Newcastle United defender Kell Watts has joined League One side Wigan Athletic on loan for the duration of the 2021/22 season. Centre half Watts has linked up with the Latics after featuring for the Magpies during pre-season, with his most recent appearance coming in United’s 3-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday. He will now join Leam Richardson’s side for the rest of the campaign as he bids to gain more experience in a league in which he excelled last term. Watts, 21, spent 2020/21 on loan at Plymouth Argyle, making a total of 50 appearances and scoring three times as he established himself at Home Park. The youngster, who made his Premier League debut for Newcastle against Liverpool on the final day of the 2019/20 season, has also spent time out on loan at Stevenage and Mansfield Town in recent seasons. Watts could be part of the Latics’ squad for their Carabao Cup tie at Hull City on Tuesday night - but failing that, is likely to be involved when Richardson’s side welcome Rotherham United to the DW Stadium for their first home game of the League One season on Saturday. It's official.... Newcastle United have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Joe Willock from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old enjoyed an outstanding loan spell with the Magpies between January and May 2021, scoring eight goals in just 14 Premier League appearances to help Steve Bruce's side to a 12th-placed finish last season. During his initial stay on Tyneside, he also became the youngest player ever to score in seven consecutive Premier League matches - a sequence he will now get an opportunity to extend in a black and white shirt having agreed a long-term deal. "I'm buzzing to be here," Willock told .co.uk. "I loved my time here last season and I'm really happy to be back and to be a Newcastle United player. "Leaving Arsenal is obviously a big step, and I'd like to thank everyone involved with the club for all their support over the years, but this is the right move to the right club at the right time for me. Willock: Why I'm back for good "I only got one chance to play in front of a smaller number of Newcastle fans as a home player last season, so I can't wait to step out in front of a packed St. James' Park and experience that atmosphere. "Come on, you Maggies!" Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to secure our number one target. "We have had to be patient and persistent, but it has been worth the wait to bring Joe back. "I want to thank Lee Charnley in particular for the work he has put in to make the deal happen. The club have gone above and beyond to make it possible. "Joe is a wonderful young player with all the attributes you want in a midfielder, and he certainly proved that during his time with us last season. "This is a move I know our supporters really wanted us to make, and I know they will join me in giving Joe a very warm welcome back to St. James' Park." Joe Willock will wear the number 28 shirt for the 2021/22 season - the same squad number he occupied last season. The club can confirm that he will be available for selection for next week's Premier League match against Aston Villa. Lights Oot!

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Matty Longstaff is on the verge of completing a loan move to Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen. The younger of the two Longstaff brothers is set to move to Pittodrie on a season-long loan, having failed to establish himself in Bruce’s first-team squad over the course of the last 12 months. “It’s happened very quickly over the last couple of days,” said Bruce. “I think we’ve said over the last couple of weeks that it’s important for young Matty to go and play some football. He had a difficult year with one thing and another last year. It’s a great opportunity for him to go and play.” The 21-year-old had been linked with a possible move to a number of clubs in the Championship, but Bruce claims Aberdeen were the only side to lodge a formal loan offer, hence their ability to lure Longstaff to the Scottish top-flight. “There might have been interest from the Championship, but when it comes down to the offer, Aberdeen have put their offer on the table and it looks as if the kid is going to accept it,” he said. “He’s desperate to go and play football. Aberdeen’s a good place and a nice place to go and play, so good luck to him.” Love that one thing and another snippet. Bruce fell out big time with both Longstaff brothers and this is the end result. Wouldn't surprise me if Sean still doesn't end up at Everton before transfer deadline. Lights Oot!

Newcastle United can confirm that Mexico under-23 international Santiago Muñóz has joined the club's Academy set-up on an initial 18-month loan deal. The 19-year-old, who was born in the United States, arrives from Mexican top-flight side Santos Laguna, where he made his debut last year and has scored three goals and claimed three assists in 13 league games. At international level, he helped Mexico win the 2019 CONCACAF Under-17 Championships, scoring five goals - including the overall goal of the tournament - and was part of the squad which finished as runners-up at the 2019 Under-17 World Cup in Brazil. And he was involved as the under-23s won the 2020 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship earlier this year. The deal includes an option to make Muñoz's move to Tyneside a permanent one. Remains to be seen whether he is Brucied or not.... Lights Oot!
