New Newcastle United managing director says club will not splash the cash in pursuit of glory Apr 07, 2014 17:40 By Simon Austin Lee Charnley insists "we will not pay over the odds or make knee-jerk decisions", despite atrocious recent run of form for the Magpies 29 Shares Share Tweet +1 Email Jan Kruger Struggles: After a strong start to the season, Newcastle's form has nosedived Newcastle's new managing director says the club will not be splashing the cash this summer, despite their abysmal recent run of form. The Magpies have shipped 11 goals in their last three matches, scoring none. Lee Charnley, who was previously Football Secretary of the club, said: "Our preparations for the summer transfer window have already begun. "Our challenge is to make sure we spend the funds we have available in a careful and considered way in order to ensure that we get the maximum benefit from every pound we invest in the squad. "It is important we don't over-promise and under-deliver for our supporters, players and staff. False expectations lead to disappointment and frustration. "Our transfer policy and strategy is very clear and will remain unchanged. We will focus on identifying and recruiting young players whose best years are ahead of them, which in nearly all cases means players in their early to mid-20s and not beyond. "Our intention for the first team is to sign one or two players per year to strengthen the squad. "In addition, we aim to strengthen the squad underneath the first team in order to make sure we have a strong group of players pushing our regular first team for a starting place. "To achieve that it is crucial that we have a youth development strategy that is producing home grown talent who can develop and feed into the system, thereby contributing to the depth within our squad. "We will continue to operate in a financially responsible manner and live within our means. This club is financially strong and there is money to spend if the deal is right and we are confident a player can add quality to the squad. Serena Taylor Poor form: The Magpies shipped in four goals at home to Manchester United at the weekend "That said, we will not pay over the odds or make knee-jerk decisions. Every player we sign represents a major investment and mistakes are costly which is why we will continue to be prudent in our transfer dealings. "We can be proud that we already meet, and in fact exceed, the requirements of Uefa's Financial Fair Play regulations and in our latest set of published accounts we recorded a profit for our third consecutive year. "We will continue to manage our finances in this sustainable manner and will not accrue debt in order to achieve short-term gains." Charnley also said the club's board - and not manager Alan Pardew - would continue to make the final decision on all transfers. "As a board we will continue to make the final decisions on all player transfers," he said. "Clearly, however, the manager and his team have a very significant involvement in such decisions and will be instrumental in making recommendations in relation to the squad." www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/new-newcastle-united-managing-director-3385307#ixzz2yEi0pAF1Follow us: @dailymirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook

Not enough players will be brought in, too many will leave... pretty sure no one saw that one coming.
Lots of expectations will be put on the youngsters next season and they will probably crumble under the pressure.

Such is my complete apathy when it comes to much of what is written about this didn't even register as news. Let's face it anyone that has followed Newcastle during the Mikey years knows full well it's been like this for a while and definitely the case during the past two years under APee. The fact another yes man in Charnley has again reinforced the message like this to the football press changes nothing. Whether it will prove effective is another thing entirely as the cracks are showing big time and no amount of paper talk like this will alter that in my view. Lights Oot! blackandwhitethinking

Not withstanding that the latest media rumour is heavily dependent on the departure of APee just how do you feel about the prospect of Tony Pulis possibly taking over at The Toon? Lights Oot!

Moyes sounds like a slight upgrade to Pardew only, for me. There were rumours I think that Pardew wanted to offer Shola a new contract with a coaching role included. The board is said to have turned down that request from the clueless one. Must have been the first ever good decision they have ever done so far!

Defeat number six and APee gains another unwanted milestone for his CV, this time managing to accomplish what no other manager has done since Willie McFaul in 87. Should he go on to do what looked like mission improbable in January and lose game number seven at home against Cardiff next Saturday then he has to go at season end for me. OMBO of course may have other ideas, but don't get me started on that FFS! Lights Oot!

Come on WL, we are still at 9th in the table. The clueless- sorry, Pardew is doing a good job and we should be pleased with him.
At least this is what all the Pardew defenders say as well as those that doesn't follow the club. Like a certain Neville...
They seem to have missed that we have been in a free fall since Christmas and that was still with Cabaye in the team.

I honestly couldn't think of anywhere better to post this... APee has blamed the World Cup for Newcastle United’s poor end of season run last season. The Magpies chief feels that some of his players were focused on international selection ahead of the finals in Brazil and this impacted United’s form. Top scorer Loic Remy missed a large chunk of games while Moussa Sissoko suffered injuries in the run-in. Both Tim Krul and Cheick Tiote were also eager to make it into the squad of Holland and Ivory Coast respectively. Pardew told one of United’s media partners the BBC: “We were affected by the World Cup, there’s no doubt about that in my mind.” Pardew also stated that failure by the club’s board to replace Yohan Cabaye proved to be a hammer blow to the club. He said: “We weren’t as strong then as we were in the first half of the season when we lost Yohan Cabaye and didn’t replace him, but certainly I’m expecting the team to be much stronger.” United’s work in the transfer market has suffered a few hits with Remy Cabella at the World Cup with France and the figures talked about for Clement Grenier falling short according to Lyon sources. Pierre-Michel Lagossa is also thought to have snubbed a move to Tyneside as Newcastle’s wage offer wasn’t acceptable in his eyes. But Pardew hopes to send out a stronger squad next term. He said: “That will give our fans some encouragement and some optimism as it all got very negative towards the end. “The key ingredient is optimism and that’s something we need to give back to our fans.” Having just read this complete pile of bullshit I'm more pessimistic than ever about next season before a ball has even been kicked. Having just posted some more stuff on the Transfers and Rumours thread I then had the misfortune to read the following.....in local rag The Journal. Newcastle United hope to re-start their recruitment drive next week after a temporary (last two years forgotten pretty quickly then, FFS!) hiatus during the first weeks of the World Cup. The transfer window officially opens on Tuesday and the Journal understands the club are still aiming to make four or five new signings – with another to be added if, as the club anticipate, interest in Mathieu Debuchy is firmed up. United’s supporters are understandably sceptical (fecking livid not sceptical) about the club’s intentions after two transfer windows when they have failed to deliver their targets, but the club have indicated to agents offering alternative targets they remain confident of doing deals. (More bloody confident than I am then...) United have adopted a watching brief (very true, watching other clubs sign players) over the past three weeks but, with key figures at most clubs across Europe now back from summer breaks, fresh bids and talks are expected with at least three targets next week. The club have a striker shortlist (getting shorter by the week) which includes Hertha Berlin striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, a Spanish-based striker and Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette. They will be made to wait on priority target Remy Cabella, though – despite the wide man having indicated his desire to move to England. A move was virtually sealed last month before Montpellier moved the goalposts, and the Ligue 1 club are unlikely to make life easy for Newcastle after being stung by the speed of the Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa switch. Cabella’s representatives have informed the club he will wait until France’s World Cup campaign has concluded before making a decision on his future – with the playmaker now considering whether to hand in a transfer request to push through the move he wants this summer. A move for Lassoga continues to flicker despite claims earlier this week Hamburg were set to beat Newcastle to the Germany under-21 forward. A £9.5m price tag has been slapped on Lassoga’s head, which has prompted outrage from his Bundesliga suitors. The striker has only a year left on his deal. Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer said: “The demands of Hertha Berlin are completely unrealistic and unreasonably high. It’s almost off the roof. We should be able to agree a more realistic package given the contract situation of the player.” If that wasn't enough to make you feel like jumping off a roof you then get this next bit... as extra incentive! The process of clearing the black-and-white decks has begun in earnest. Wigan have agreed a fee in the region of £500,000 (so much for it being undisclosed) for James Tavernier, while Panathinaikos have had an initial offer of £300,000 for Mehdi Abeid rejected. Dundee United have also registered an interest in Aussie stopper Curtis Good. In my view the silence from within Gallowgate Towers is deafening and only provides further evidence for those that need it the Club is definitely struggling to attract players. Should this continue throughout the remainder of the summer the noise from pi**ed off Fans may well be heard well beyond Tyneside. Begs the question what on earth did we do to deserve this lot running ? Lights Oot!

With four games played this is the last piece of news any Toon fan needs to hear....so according to The Mirror among a number of rags; Newcastle fear striker Siem de Jong will be out for four months after he suffered a groin injury in training this week. The Magpies' £5million signing from Ajax will have scans on the injury in the next two days amid fears he has suffered a serious tear and could be out until Christmas. Newcastle have delayed the extensive tests while the injury eases. The loss of the Holland international would be a serious blow to Toon manager Alan Pardew, who missed out on QPR's Loic Remy after a successful loan spell at St James' Park last season and decided not to pursue any other alternative striking options. De Jong missed Holland’s Thursday friendly against Italy because he had been injured for the start of the English season and was instead with the rest of the Newcastle squad on Tyneside this week. He is understood to have suffered the fresh injury kicking a ball in a routine training session. It may just be me, however I don't know how this report can definitely say De Jong will be out for four months when the tests haven't even taken place yet. Even so it's pretty much nailed on he is unlikely to start against Southampton in what is a crunch game for APee. As any repeat of last season's diabolical defeat will set off a whole chain reaction of cries for him to be sacked. Lights Oot!

Ashley has just sat back and let the fool implode the club and the team hopefully he will get his true deserts/comeuppance. I think it is amazing how someone who has been so successful in business can be so idiotic and foolhardy.
